Users will need to read these instructions carefully for optimum performance and safety. Once you are familiar with Breastbottle nursers, you will find them easy to use and free from leakage. Remember, all babies need lots of love, snuggling, and close parental care! Flow rate: The Breastbottle nurser comes to you with only 1 of 3 holes open in the nipple. A slow flow is recommended to simulate breastfeeding, especially when switching between breast and bottle. If your baby seems frustrated while feeding or is taking longer than 15-20 minutes per feeding, you may want to increase flow rate, often at about 3 and 6 months of age. But like adults, each baby is different. Let your baby try it before opening additional ducts, and be sure the open duct(s) is clear. Once additional holes are opened, you cannot reverse the process. To increase flow: Turn the dome and nipple inside out and use nail clippers to fully clip off a second or third nub cleanly at the base. If you are in doubt about the amount of nourishment your baby is receiving, please consult your pediatrician or other qualified medical professional. Cleaning: Before first use, disassemble the nurser (5 parts) and sterilize in rapidly boiling water for five minutes. Thereafter, wash parts in warm, soapy water, rinsing fully, or place in the top rack of a dishwasher. Silicone parts will last longer if hand washed. If your water quality is questionable, or if your baby is prone to infection, sterilization may be necessary for each use. Be sure to clean under the air valve, inside the nipple, and around the nub inside the cap. The dome can be turned inside-out, and the blue valve can be removed for cleaning, then reinstalled. The Breastbottle nurser also can be autoclaved at plastic, not stainless steel, settings. IMPORTANT: After cleaning, re-install the blue valve disc as shown below. Please note that the tapering of the disc is against the lid's base. Then turn it slightly to center it properly on its retainer post. If it is installed improperly the bottle will leak. Filling: Assemble with clean hands. 1) Align the teeth and snap the ring onto the cap. 2) Drop the silicone dome straight into the ring. The dome must be fully seated in the ring. The nub inside the cap plugs the nipple tip to prevent leakage. 3) Pour contents into the dome. 4) Hold the cap and screw the cover on securely (clockwise). 5) Turn the nurser upright to allow air to escape through the nipple. 6) Un-snap the cap. (This is made easy by squeezing opposite sides of the cap and pulling.) Don't agitate the contents more than necessary as air can cause stomach pains and possibly colic in your baby. Adiri nursers are designed to minimize air intake and will work extremely well to keep air out of your baby's stomach if properly used. Storing milk: Breastbottle nursers can be used to store breastmilk or formula in your refrigerator. Freezer storage is not recommended, as some leakage may occur upon thawing. If necessary, freeze the closed container with the cap on and the nipple facing down. Follow La Leche League or other reliable guidelines for breastmilk handling and storage. Warming: Warm contents separately in a pan, or by immersing the already filled nurser in hot water away from the heat source. Microwave warming can harm breastmilk and formula, particularly if over-heated. If you must use a microwave, remove the cover and warm the contents gradually. Stir when warm. Never serve contents above body temperature - 98F! Feeding: If you are introducing a bottle to your baby for the first time, or if your baby has refused to accept other bottles, please visit our special page offering many helpful hints for introducing a bottle. A good feeding position imitates breastfeeding. Cradle your baby in a semi-upright position and make eye contact and comforting sounds. Leaving an infant to feed alone with any bottle is unnatural, unsafe, and may result in tooth decay, ear infections or even death from choking. The soft bottle is designed to contact the baby's face for a comforting experience like natural breastfeeding. That is the major reason for the breast-like design. Much like breastfeeding, Breastbottle nursers require patience, and there is a learning curve to easy practice. As contents are withdrawn, be sure to keep fluid in the nipple. When the container is nearly empty, pinch the vacated space in the dome to keep milk in the nipple tip and enable 100% use of the contents. "Letdown" is imitated if the dome is squeezed firmly. Be very careful not to overdo it as an infant can choke. Feeding should always be supervised by a responsible adult. Important: Some possibility of tearing exists with all artificial nipples. For your child's safety, treat the domes with care. Check the dome regularly for tears, punctures or cracks. Pull hard on the nipple to test it. If you suspect deterioration, replace the dome immediately. Inspect the domes regularly, especially if your baby is teething. Leakage: If you experience leakage with your Breastbottle nurser, please check the following:   The blue valve disc must be correctly installed on the retainer post for proper seal. Center the outer lip of the valve in the indented area and gently rotate the valve until center post pokes through and seats the value. Then ensure that the outer sealing surface of the disc is fully in contact with the valve seat. Be sure the valve disc's tapered edge slopes up towards the center post (see diagram).   Be sure the dome (the container part with the nipple), is correctly installed, not inside-out.   Fully seat the dome's edge flange in the white ring.   Before filling and transporting, the nipple tip must be plugged with the nub inside the cap cover.   Screw the base cover on securely. The cover cap has been designed as a tool to help do this.   Turn the bottle upright before removing the cap.      * Based on limited testing
